At The Lost Acre, we believe that flowers are at their happiest when they grow in harmony with nature, so we never use harmful pesticides. Instead, we use a sweet, natural secret: Unsulphured molasses! When we spray this sugary treat, it raises the "Brix" (the sugar level) inside the plant. This makes the flowers incredibly healthy, but it does something even cooler—it makes the plants less tasty to pests like aphids and spider mites, while acting like a dinner bell for "good bugs" (predators) that come to help protect our garden. It’s a sweet way to keep the bad bugs away!
Our Feathered Farmhands
We also have some very special helpers who work for free—our local birds! Because The Lost Acre is tucked right next to the river, we are lucky to have many feathered friends living nearby. These birds act like our farm’s natural security guards, snacking on grasshoppers and other big insects that might try to nibble on our petals. By letting nature take the lead, we create a peaceful balance where the birds stay full, our flowers stay beautiful, and our environment stays clean and chemical-free.
