About Our Marionberries
The Marionberry is a true Northwest treasure, originally bred at Oregon State University and named after Marion County, Oregon. While they are a staple of the Pacific Northwest, they are famously difficult to find in the Central Valley of California. This is because the Marionberry is a delicate fruit that thrives in very specific climates; it requires the precise balance of a long growing season and mild winters to develop its signature quality. By growing them here on our farm, we are bringing a rare piece of Oregon’s agricultural heritage directly to your table—a treat you won't typically find in local grocery stores.
The secret to the Marionberry’s legendary flavor lies in its complex balance of sugar and acid. While most blackberries are simply sweet, the Marionberry offers a rich, "earthy" undertone followed by a bright, tart finish that lingers on the palate. This complexity is what earned it the title "King of Blackberries." Because they have a thinner skin and a higher juice content than standard varieties, they don't ship well over long distances, which is why seeing them fresh in California is such a rarity. When you bite into one of our Marionberries, you’re tasting a perfect harmony of sweetness and tang that is as unique as the region it came from.
